Motorsport UK Kartmasters British GP

So, after months of practice, it was finally time to head into the British GP, my first go at such a prestigious event. A multi-nation entry of over 300 drivers would come together at the PF International Circuit to race over 4 days. Practice, qualifying, heats and then the finals on the last day.

There was plenty of nerves and I was soon to learn my teammate had left the team and was going to be a direct competitor in the event, rather than working together. I would be the only Jade Waterswift entrant in the event. No pressure!!

So we began the 4 days with testing and practice on the Thursday. We also went all out for new livery for the event - check it out below!

Day 1

Thursday would see the full grid of 32 drivers head out for 5 practice sessions. The weather was fantastic, the kart was very good even on the practice engine. Scott and the team had done everything they could to give me a great start.

In the first officially timed practice session I was 23rd and very close to setting personal best times. Its difficult to know what everyone else is doing but at least a good indication that the setup was very close.

Free practice 2 put me in 30th but that wasn’t a big issue as the time was exactly the same as the previous session. I did get caught up in a small incident damaging the side pod and support bracket.

Day 2

Friday was an important day with timed qualifying and 2 heats. With only five minutes for qualifying getting a bit of space and setting a good time was important. I managed a reasonable spot and didn’t get held up, eventually crossing the line in P26. Lap times were a little slower for everyone but the weather was improving.

Heat 1

I got a good start and was battling hard all race, eventually dropping two places and finishing P28. The quality and speed of the whole pack was amazing but I was happy to be in the race.

Heat 2

A much better race, moving up to P24. I was really happy with the pace I had but I still felt a little more was needed.

Day 3

Timed Qualifying 2

The second qualifying went a lot better. I was 0.6s quicker than day 2 and qualified in P24, ahead of some very good dealers.

Heat 3

After what seemed like ages of waiting, I was racing in heat 3. Some of those that hadn’t qualified well were starting behind me.

The whole heat was littered with small incidents and in the end I finished a very disappointing P29. I had a big slide and ended up going sideways off the bridge losing me a few places that I couldn’t recover.

Day 4
We were lucky to have Mark from Protruck video join us for Sunday to do some media and filming work; he has provided some great photos and video, they are all on our socials.

Heat 4
The heat went well but as we were still not finding quicker times, ended up P27.

Pre-Final
After all the scores were calculated from the 2 qualifying sessions and the heats, I ended up in a rather disappointing P32 for the pre final.
Honestly, I was a bit shocked to find myself so far back but given that I had no real expectations for the event, I had nothing to lose and was pleased to have made it to the pre final with no damage and tyres in reasonable shape. I did make two places, up to P30.

Grand Prix

We lined up on P30 for the GP final. The reality was that we had done well to get this far and as Dad said, it was just time to enjoy the event and do the best I could.

We assembled on the start line and left the grid for the start. Completing the warm up lap, the kart felt good, as we hit the start it was all go.

Turn one and there was a massive crash, 2 karts destroyed but fortunately no injuries. The race was red flagged, and we were brought back to the line. 20 minutes later we started again.

I got a good start and drove hard all race, I made 4 places on lap one and a further 3 on lap 2 pushing me up to P22 leaving me racing with Harry Champman, a good friend and regular British championship driver, we battled until the last lap where he finally got past dropping me to 23rd.

We had a fantastic 4 days at the Grand Prix and a really good experience but there is no doubt we could never have got to the event without the help of all our sponsors and supporters. So to everyone who has been there for me in 2025

THANK YOU

That’s not so say we are done, we still have a fabulous chance in the Shenington Championship. Currently 4th with 2 more events to go, we can get on the podium if I push hard, which of course I will.
